Makarska Observatory and Astro Park are unique scientific and tourist facilities in the city. As the youngest observatory in the Republic of Croatia, it is unique for several reasons: it was built on a monument, located in the city center on a small natural hill just 50 m from the waterfront and the city beach. The monument within which the Makarska Observatory is located was erected in 1974 as a memorial center for all veterans killed in the Second World War from the area of Makarska and Makarska Riviera. It is the work of the famous architect Eng. Matija Salaj (+2014), who is also one of the pioneers of architects in tourism on our coast.
